About the initiative
Politics.be is an independent, non-commercial volunteer initiative run by an informal volunteer group without separate legal personality. It has no commercial or profit-making purpose, receives no advertising or sponsorship income and offers no paid services. Its aim is to promote public debate, access to information and civic engagement as a volunteer contribution to society.
Scope
These provisions apply to Politics.be and to websites, domains, subdomains and online services managed by the same volunteer initiative that link to this page, including politics.be, www.politics.be and forum.politics.be.
Contact point
Maarten Malaise is the public contact point for the initiative: maarten@politics.be. There is no separate legal entity or company number.
Use and liability
Information is provided on a best-efforts basis without a guarantee of completeness, accuracy, currency or uninterrupted availability. External links remain the responsibility of their providers. Politics.be content is not legal, financial, tax or other professional advice. Liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
Forum and user content
Users remain responsible for content they post. Illegal content, infringements of third-party rights, threats, doxing, spam and abuse may be removed or restricted. Politics.be may move, close or remove posts and restrict accounts where necessary for operation, security, forum rules or legal obligations. Posting grants only the non-exclusive permission technically necessary to store and display that content within the service. Moderation does not mean Politics.be endorses user content.
Notice of potentially illegal content
A notice may be submitted electronically to maarten@politics.be. Preferably include the exact URL or post, why you believe it is illegal, your name and email address, and a good-faith statement. Politics.be reviews notices and, where appropriate, communicates the decision taken.
Privacy
Depending on the service, data you provide such as a username, email address, post or contact request may be processed, together with technical data needed for security and operation such as server logs. For share statistics, the public-debt tool records only aggregated events such as location page, share channel and follow-up action and does not write IP addresses or persistent user IDs into its own event log. Hosting and security logs may technically contain IP addresses. Data is not sold to advertisers.
Purposes and legal bases
Data is processed to provide and secure services, communicate, operate and moderate the forum, prevent abuse, comply with law and statistically improve services. Depending on the processing, the legal basis is the requested service, legitimate interests, legal obligation or consent where consent is required.
Retention and rights
Data is not kept longer than necessary for purpose, security, continuity, disputes or legal obligations. For access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or other privacy questions contact maarten@politics.be.
Cookies and local storage
Politics.be aims to minimise cookies. The forum may use functional cookies for sessions, login and preferences. The public-debt tool itself uses no advertising or profiling cookies. If non-essential analytics or marketing cookies are introduced later, they will only be activated after valid consent where required by law.
Intellectual property and sources
Original text, design and software are protected where applicable. Third-party data and material remain subject to the rights and terms of their original owners. Citing a source does not imply endorsement or partnership.
Applicable law and jurisdiction
Belgian law applies to use of Politics.be. For disputes for which parties may validly choose jurisdiction, the courts of the judicial district of Antwerp, Antwerp division, shall have jurisdiction. This does not override mandatory consumer, privacy, international-jurisdiction or other rules that cannot lawfully be waived.
Changes
This text may be amended when services, law or practices change. The version published on the website is the current version.
